Gravel crunched under my shoes as I stepped onto the sidewalk. Sweet relief filled me, but it didn't last long. I breathed in the scent of wet grass, apples, and rain, and sadness gripped my heart.
Before I knew it I ran, my boots pounding against the pavement. The once warm air now rushed coldly against my ears as I took off into the dark canopy of trees. Crickets played a haunting melody as I rushed pass. Little murmers of warning. Don't go. Danger. Turn back. Beware. A silent plea escaped from my lips and they hushed as I came across a clearing. A large tree stood at its center, it's branches stretched out as if to touch the night sky. I made my way through the dew covered flowers and towards the tree. Its bark was dry despite the rain.
Soon I began climbling the tree. I was on my fitfth branch before someone spoke. "Aren't you too old to be climbing trees?" A boy about the same age as me looked down from the top branch. It was too dark to make out any features. I hurried along. "How 'bout you wise guy?" I asked him. "You seem to be the same age as me so you shouldn't be talking." I was just a branch under him before he spoke. "Thirteen?" I stopped and took a good look at him. He had raven black hair, chocolate brown eyes, and fair skin. I in contrast had reddish brown hair, misty grey eyes, and pale skin. I grabbed the branch and sat next to him. "Yup. I just turned thirteen yesterday. You?"
"Last month. Name's Adrianne," he looked at me quizzically, as if he's determining something. He leaned over and whispered, "Juliet." I blushed. Thankfully he couldn't see. "What the heck?! I can't believe you," I muttered. He shrugged, "I have a talent for guessing names. Although it freaks people out, I like seeing the expression on their face when I guess correctly. But, you don't look at all surprised. More like annoyed." I glared at him.
"You guessed a part of it. Full name us Juliet Capulet Roseanna. Sadly, my mom was a fan of Shakespearian plays. When my friends found out my first name was 'Juliet Capulet,' they began teasing me. So I guess I was mad 'cuz you might do the same" I explained. "So how'd you get your name?" He sighed. "My parents name me Adrianne because it means 'dark one.' I lived up to my name by sneaking out at night, like I was looking for something. I guess I'm glad I found you. Afterall, you seem to be interesting. Meet you same time tomorrow?" He jumped down before I could reply.
